27/03/15

Today we began by going into our groups and finishing off our animations and documents. We began by having a group discussion about the workload and how is best to distribute it. We then got on with the workload. I wrote up the annotations for the screenshots I took yesterday and today. I felt that this session was very productive.

I then moved onto submitting some left over units that I had forgotten to submit until today. I then continued on with some more annotating so that I had completed my section of the production log. I then completed the correction for the design brief and added more detail so that I had the required amount of words.

Overall today was a good day because the group was very productive and we got lots of work done. I also completed my section of the writing and corrections for the design brief. The next time I work in a group I will put myself foward for more work and make sure I complete it to a good standard.

26/03/15

Today we began with  student quiz about a small length Loony Tunes animation. It was about a farmer trying to capture Bugs Bunny so that he can have some dinner. I enjoyed watching the animation because it helped me re-live childhood memories. I felt that the questions were a bit easy because it was a very high scoring quiz.

We then moved onto viewing each others in progress animations. I enjoyed this as it was good to see other peoples work and to be able to grade it. The animations were quite jumpy because of the way that LanSchool works. I also wanted to see what people had to say about our animation so far.

Overall today was a good day because we got lots of work done to our animation and it is now almost complete. I also enjoyed the quiz because it is something different from our usual work and exercises. I hope to complete the animation tomorrow so that we only have to document and annotate screenshots.

Today I learnt about a new tool in flash which is called VCAM. VCAM is used to capture Flash animations and can help create different camera angles and zooms for the Flash animation. I also learnt more about the importance of frames in Flash because I have to sync the zoom of the camera with the beat of the music.

I would tell the person who is about to animate that they should look through guides and tutorials to learn about Flash. I would then say that they should use a different program to draw the assets for their animation. I would then tell them to consider how many frames they wish to use so that they can decide on how smooth they want the animation to be.

A dope sheet is important because it can help someone who has been ill or new to the project to understand what is happening in each frame or second. A dope sheet is also important because it can help the person to organise their time more efficiently and they can know what they doing without having to ask someone.

Today we began the day by looking at an example video of stop motion. It was very enjoyable as it had a variety of different backgrounds and things happening in the actual animation. We then had to answer a few questions that reflected the video. I found the video to be funny but slightly irrelevant to the group I am in as we have chosen a different form of animation.

We then went back into our groups, our group discussed how we should divide the workload and what we needed to get done during the day. I then went back to my desk to draw both the background, clouds and birds in the first scene. I enjoyed this because it was not too complex for me to draw and I could feel like I was contributing.

Overall today was a good day because I contributed lots to the group as we carried out different tasks including; background drawing, extreme close up of the burger asset and going over the dope sheet with the group. I have benefited from today because I knew what I needed to do throughout the day because of clear planning.

20/03/15

Today we began with a special quiz with the subject of the quiz being about how to make an effective storyboard. I achieved a score of 547 which was not enough to get the highest score in the class. We did this quiz after stepping outside to look at some clouds before realising we were not going to see the eclipse so we went back inside.

We then moved onto working back in our animation groups for this unit. We began by looking over both the dope sheet and time log. We then wrote up about the feedback we received yesterday for our pitch. I then edited some music in Audacity to help the soundtrack suit the animation. I then wrote up an explanation of what I did to edit the music.

Overall today was a good day because I enjoyed going outside to look at some clouds particularly when it got really cold. I also enjoyed editing the music we needed in Audacity because I do not get use Audacity very often. The negative of the day was the amount of formatting the Google docs needed because images or text would move onto a different page.

A pitch is a speech or presentation that is designed to convince or sell to people your different ideas or assets. Pitches have to be entertaining enough to keep the audience interested while also keeping eye contact with them so that they feel like they are being spoken to properly. Pitches also require lots of positivity so that you can convey how positive and passionate you are about the subject of the pitch. 

The advice I would give to someone else who is about to pitch is that I would tell them to seem passionate while also displaying lots of knowledge about the subject of the pitch. I would also say that eye contact should be kept with everyone in the room and not just at one person or the board.

Overall I felt that our groups pitch was decent. We had good information on each slide particularity the sketch slides. The bad points of the pitch were that we did not include enough information about the format of the restaurant and how it would work. I felt that we did well to answer a lot of the feedback and questions that people gave us.

17/03/15

Today we began by doing some word association with pre-production being the subject word. I managed to associate many words with pre-production because I already knew based off of the word what it meant. It is basically all the measures needed to do before the creation process begins. This can be things such as equipment testing, planning and a check list.

We then moved on to working in our groups again. During the time with my group I completed a mood board and storyboard. I then explained each of the documents in Google documents. We are using Google documents because it means the group can edit the document at the same time.

What I have done today is useful because it gives the group a clear idea heading into production. It also means that the group can work quicker and less questions will be asked because we already know what is happening. The pre-production word association as useful because people who did not know what pre-production meant can now understand it.

The New Assignment

Today we started off with another crossword that we had to do on a computer screen rather than on paper. This would have been fine had it not been for the lack of quality in the image making it hard to find different key terms. I found the crossword to be annoying as I only found two words during the time limit which annoyed be a lot.

Today I learnt about the different camera shots and which camera angle is the best for which situation. For example an extreme long shot is good for showing where the person currently is. I also learnt about the different ways of making a good storyboard like including actions and  scene numbers.

Overall today was a good day because we started a new assignment which means we get to work in teams. Everyone has to come up with an advert promoting a certain product. We have to come up with design briefs and storyboards. We then make a 45 second advert that can be stop motion or Flash as long as it uses certain camera angles.

90th Blog post

Today I learnt about the different inventions and ideas that helped to shape animation as it is today. I also learned more about the people who helped contribute to animation in it's early stages like William Horner and even Thomas Edison. I also learned about how to evaluate something effectively.

I feel that the things I have learned about today will help because it improves my knowledge about animation. It also helps me to appreciate the amount of work that goes into animations particularly feature length animations. It will also help me to add information to my assignment and to make sure it is of a good quality.

The things that went well from today were; I learned lots about animation techniques and key people. I learnt new words to help me describe the atheistic of animation like colourful, simple and detailed. I also got lots of work done because I have a few deadlines coming up for assignments that I need to tweak.

Post number 89

Today we began by having a type race on a website sent to us. I enjoyed this activity because it allowed us to sharpen up our typing skills and it had an added element of competitiveness to it. My highest score of words per minute was 47. I felt very happy with this score because it meant that I beat a few other people.

We then moved onto looking at bitmaps and vector images. We looked at some example images and then began to write up information into our ongoing assignments. I feel that this assignment is going very well because I understand what information needs to be included along with relevant images.

Overall today was a good day because I got lots of work done and I am understanding lots about this unit. The negatives of the day was having to watch the Beauty & The Beast film clip. I also did not enjoy the presenting to the class as I had only just finished the presentation and I had not read the notes properly.

2D Animation

Today we began a new unit which is 2D Animation. We started off by looking at some pictures and descriptions before having to match them up. I found this exercise to be confusing at first as there was so much to look at on the screen. Once the activity was explained to me I realised what I needed to do and got on with it.

We then moved on to looking at assignment one task one which is to create a report about the history of animation techniques. We looked at examples of both Cel and Stop Motion animation and then we began to write up our reports. I am currently finding this task to be informative and straightforward because the task is explained clearly in the scheme of learning.

Overall today was a good day because I learned some new things about animation particularly the processes of making certain animations. I also enjoyed looking at the examples because it helps us to understand the processes behind these animations. I did not enjoy the starter activity as I felt at first there was too much information on one screen.

U39 Deadline

Today we began with a quiz which involved watching a Pixar animated short and then answering questions about it afterwards. I achieved a score of three out of seven which meant I had to have a tie breaker with two other people. Fortunately I don't have to do the quiz next week. I felt the quiz lacked a couple of questions as it was quite short. We then moved on to completing our evaluation of our web banners for unit thirty nine and then hand them in before the deadline.

I have learnt a lot from unit thirty nine particularly the different types of animations and the methods of creating these animations. I also learnt how to use a software that I have never used before called Flash. I learnt about Flash through many different tutorials and YouTube videos. I also learnt how animation has advanced over the years.

In order to meet deadlines I will manage my workload more carefully and make sure I add any re-submission deadlines to the calender so that I know when to complete the re submission for. I will also do work in my independent study times and during Wednesdays so that I can get work done faster.

For this unit I would watch more YouTube videos and download sound files earlier so that I can have more sound effects and better sound effects.

Yesterday at the Creative Futures event I learnt a lot about the creative industry and what it takes to make it in the industry. I also learnt about the methods involved in making a good radio show. I liked the radio activity the most as it required the whole group to make sure the show was run effectively and that it had all the content required in it. Level 3's should go again because it was an informative day and it meant getting away from the regular desk work that happens on a day to day basis.

85th Blogpost

Today we began by talking about how to evaluate something. To begin we discussed what linked Britain's Got Talent with both The Voice and The X Factor. We then watched a song battle from The Voice which we then had to evaluate at the end. I felt that at the time it cleared up what evaluate meant.

We then moved on to the new assignment task which is to evaluate and review both the time plans we made earlier and the creative process involved in creating our animated banners. At first I did not understand the task but I was then shown how to do the task and I was able to start working because it was broken up into smaller tasks that I was able to complete.

Overall today was a good day because I got lots of work done and I was able to properly understand how to evaluate something. The positive of the day was that I had completed the animated banner and handed it in yesterday. The negative of the day was the beginning of the day when we had to watch the voice.

Animated Banner Completed

Today we began with a mini crossword which featured key terms and phrases for the web animation unit. The prize for the first person to complete the crossword was a Yorkie bar. Unfortunately I was nowhere near completing the crossword so I did not win. I enjoyed this activity as it was a different start to the day and helped to engage my brain.

We then moved on to working on our animated banners again. In this time I added animation to the text and I downloaded some royalty free sound files to add to the banner as well. We were then put into pairs and we had to evaluate each others animated banners. This helped me to come up with ideas and rectify anything wrong with my banner.

Overall today was a good day as I completed the banner to what I feel is a good standard while also enjoying other activities throughout the day. The positive of the day was the amount of work I completed to a good standard. The negative was the struggle I had with importing the sound which I eventually sorted out.
