Today we started a new unit called communications and employ-ability skills in I.T. The starter activity involved the team leader of each group to go up to a table and create the object they were told to. They then had to go back to the groups and give them some Lego to create exactly the same object without showing the group. I felt our group did really well at this task because we successfully made the object we were told to despite how simple it looked to make.
We were then told to find a job on the internet and list it's skills and attributes section. Each job had different skills and attributes because each job was different. We then listed each of the attributes on the board to make a more complete list. This helped me to understand more about the different skills and attributes that employers regularly look for. We also listed down attitude and skills using the same method.
We then made mini presentations on an assigned attribute. Our group was given interpersonal skills that we had to come up with a definition and examples for. We then presented these in front of the class and it was interesting to see what people had come up with. I felt our presentation could of had a bit more detail but we didn't have enough time to add more bullet points.
We then played a game of Chinese whispers to show how ineffective communication can be. It started off with a small group of four that successfully completed the chain. We then tried this with the whole class and things just got massively complicated and somehow Billy's mum was thrown into the equation.
Overall I felt today was both an informative and enjoyable day because I learnt about many new skills and attributes employers are looking for and I enjoyed the games of Chinese whispers. I least enjoyed playing football in the rain at lunch and my bus breaking down in the morning and having to stand in the rain and wait for a new one.
